Critical Incident Response Team -The Critical Incident Response Team is a select group of deputies and support staff from the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and other local agencies. CRT is utilized in high-risk incidents in which disciplined teamwork, specialized weapons and tactical skills are required, such as incidents involving barricaded subjects or hostages.
 
Sheriff's Posse -The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Posse is a small group of deputies who work with their own horses at a variety of events throughout the parish. The Sheriff's Posse is called into service for parades and other outdoor celebrations; the group also assists with law enforcement at special events, and search and rescue.
 
Sheriff's Flotilla - The Sheriff's Flotilla services include: marine patrols on all navigable waterways in the parish; boater safety services, inspections, criminal investigations of marine related incidents and boating accident investigations. An aggressive policy emphasizes safety of the boating public by enforcing the laws dealing directly with safety equipment and safe boat operation. The sheriff's flotilla unit provides a primary presence on all water related search and rescue.
 
Sheriff's Reserves - A Reserve Deputy Sheriff is a volunteer who is a trained, professional, sworn law enforcement officer. Reserves are the "Back up" for our full-time paid deputies. They work many details throughout the year, including charitable events, festival events, and ride with our full time deputies.

Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force - Maj. Leo Fontenot is the Task Force leader who is a certified child safety seat technician.  Maj. Fontenot is available daily  to review the installation of your child safety seat.  Maj. Fontenot can be reached at 225-389-2311.

Community Policing Unit - Community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime.  Ken Kahao is the Community Policing Unit coordinator and can be reached at 225-389-2318.

  

Community Policing is comprised of three key components:

Community Partnerships which are collaborative partnerships between the law enforcement agency and the individuals and organizations they serve to develop solutions to problems and increase trust in police.

Organizational Transformation which is the alignment of organizational management, structure, personnel, and information systems to support community partnerships and proactive problem solving.
Problem Solving is the process of engaging in the proactive and systematic examination of identified problems to develop and rigorously evaluate effective responses.
